Currently traveling across the Pacific Ocean at 904 kmh and at a height of 10,634 metres above sea level this beautiful metallic beast does not skip a beat.
Apart rom being about 40mins late to take off (due to traffic rather than the plane itself) we took off so gently or as gently as an amazingly huge bird can.
What grabs you first about the Qantas A380 is when you see it parked outside through the airport window. The massive engines, the enormous wingspan and the bulky body with the two levels of windows streaming down each side.
And inside this is a new plane and a new design. Feels new, looks new and somehow gives you a warm inner glow. I sat down in my seat, which are green by the way, and thought wow my holiday has started and this is going to be fun.
So I’m now 3 hours into my flight and the sun is setting outside the rather large portholes in the aircraft. Qantas as like most larger airlines have sky cam now where you can watch the plan flying through the sky with a webcam on the tail. This is fun and makes you really feel you are flying even when you have to keep your blinds drawn. It will be great fun flying into lax and see our Qantas landing. Excited about that.
It’s been a tumultuous year, like most I guess, but it’s had is terrible sadness, anger, frustration and a lot of fun and friendship. I think this has been the first year in my life that I have actually built friendships that I believe will last forever. For that reason I think 2011 has been my best.
Time to lay back and enjoy the ride. Next stop LA. #BucketListTrip
